Looking to work on your acting skills, meet new people and just get out and “play”?

Workshop Theatre’s new Actor’s Workshop might be just the thing for you. We’ll practice warmup techniques, improv games, and work towards scripted and devised scenes. Each term will end with a showcase of the groups’ work with feedback from your peers and members of the Workshop Theatre family.

Under the direction and guidance of AJ Pearce, individuals will be able to come and experience a whole different side to theatre!

AJ Pearce

AJ has been in love with theatre most of his life. From his first Christmas play in elementary school in St John's Newfoundland, to A Midsummer Night’s Dream in High School in Calgary, to now, the arts have been his driving force. After studying theatre at U of C, and film at SAIT, AJ moved to England. There he ran youth theatre workshops and taught high school Drama at a school for children with moderate learning difficulties and autistic spectrum disorders. It was at this school that he met his beautiful wife Sarah. While in England AJ did his undergraduate studies in The Creative Industries and earned his MA in Cultural and Arts Management from the University of Winchester. He then went on to get his teaching certification from Oxford Brookes University. AJ acted in and directed dozens of community productions as well as doing improv and stand up comedy. A highlight was when he wrote and starred in a one man show for his 30th birthday; raising money for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the YWCA. After moving back to Calgary, AJ stepped away from his career to be a stay at home dad to his three beautiful children; Max, Leo and Bea. AJ believes in the transformative power of the arts and is passionate about theatre that deals with mental health and LGBTQ+ issues. AJ was involved in Workshop’s production of Night of the Living Dead but unfortunately stepped away when Covid hit. He is back now and very eager to start facilitating Workshop’s new Actors Studio Program for the second term and getting to know this wonderful company and the great Calgary arts scene.
