Rehearsals will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings and either Saturday or Sunday depending on cast availability

Clarissa, the wife of a Foreign Office diplomat, is given to daydreaming. 'Supposing I were to come down one morning and find a dead body in the library, what should I do?’ she muses. Clarissa has her chance to find out when she discovers a body in the drawing-room of her house in Kent. Desperate to dispose of the body, Clarissa persuades her three house guests to become accessories and accomplices. The search begins for the murderer and the motive, while at the same time trying to persuade a police inspector that there has been no murder at all.

Each audition session is 30 minutes, with 5 people able to register per session. Auditions consist of cold-reads from the script.
Audition slots are divided by character's gender presentation. We encourage those auditioning to choose their audition time slot based on the character(s) they are interested in, regardless of their own gender identity.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
CLARISSA HAILSHAM-BROWN
Female presenting character
Age range: 30's
There is a bit of mischief about her. She is the second wife of diplomat Henry Hailsham-Brown and stepmother to the teenage daughter.
HENRY HAILSHAM-BROWN
Male presenting character
Age range: 40's
At least 10 years older than Clarissa. He finds Clarissa amusing, and is quite devoted to her. He's very much the politician. Very proper.
HUGO BIRCH
Male presenting character
Age range: 60's
He's more of an old curmudgeon. Much more officious than either Roland or Henry.
JEREMY WARRENDER
Male presenting character
Age range: late 30's
Much closer to Clarissa in age than the other men. He's a bit of a rogue. He certainly considers himself a lady's man.
MILDRED PEAKE
Female presenting character
Age range: 50's
The comic relief in the play. She's the gardener. She's loud and boorish or at least she pretends to be.
PIPPA HAILSHAM-BROWN
Female presenting character
Age range: 12 (can be older but must present about 12 yrs old)
Henry's 12 year old daughter. She's a bit more mature than most girls her age. This role auditions ONLY on July 19th 2025
SIR ROWLAND DELAHAYE
Male presenting character
Age range: 50's
Clarissa's guardian and one of Henry's best friends. He's charming and much less rigid than Henry.
INSPECTOR LORD
Male presenting character
Age range: 60's
​A seasoned detective, and well aware that the people he's dealing with know more than they are letting on.
OLIVER COSTELLO
Male presenting character
Age range: 40's
He's married to Henry's first wife. The kind of man women find alluring and men find obnoxious. All he really needs is the moustache to twirl.
ELGIN
Male presenting character
Age range: 30's to 50's
The butler, and with all Christie butlers he's probably hiding something.
CONSTABLE JONES
Male presenting character
Age range: 20's to 40's
The Lord's associate.
